Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC

POLYMERS: This Directive obliges Member States to meet the 2020 target of 50% for re-use and recycling of waste materials such as paper, metal, plastic and glass form households and similar waste streams.


WASTE TYRES: The concept end-of-waste introduced by this Directive establishes that End of Life Tyres ELT-derived must be considered as a resource and secondary material for new applications instead of waste.

Packaging Waste Directive 2004/12/EC

POLYMERS: This Directive includes and overall packaging waste (including materials such as cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, steel, aluminium and wood) recovery target of 60%, of which 55-80% must be recycled, together with material-specific targets. These targets were set to be fulfilled by the Member States in 2008.

Landfill Directive 1999/31/EC

POLYMER AND ELT: This Directive obliges member states to reduces the amount of biodegradable waste in landfill by 65% in 2016 compared to 1995 levels.

WASTE TYRES: This Directive laid down a ban on whole tyres by 16 July 2003 and on shredded tyres by 16 July 2006.

National Plan for Waste Tyres Management 2008-2015
WASTE TYRES: This plan establishes new sustainable objectives for the management of waste tyres. The rate of end-of-life tyres retreated shoud increse to 20%; the recycled rate shoud increase to 55% (45% of the recycled rubber will be used in bituminous mixes) and the remaining 20% will be used for energy recovery.
