The Santander Port Authority (APS) hosted the last promotional event of the 3DPare project in ‘La Cerda’ light house, located in ‘La Magdalena’ peninsula. Christian Manrique (APS), Daniel Castro (UC) and Adrián Yoris (UC) participated as guest speakers.
The final promotional event of the 3DPare project was held on AqSS. Researchers from the 3DPare project presented a summary of the project. Also, two guest speakers were invited: Manuel Calvo (Gobierno de Cantabria) and Manuel Soto (UPV/EHU) to talk about future plans of immersing artificial reefs in Castro-Urdiales and Plentzia.
VideoIn order to celebrate the ‘International Day of Biodiversity’, AqSS organised a round table to explain the state of biodiversity in the Basque Country and to present the 3DPare project. Esther Irigaray (Director of the AqSS), Amalia Martinez de Murguía (AqSS curator) and Elena Blanco (UC researcher) participated as speakers.
The Museo Marítimo del Cantábrico (MMC) organised a promotional event, pairing it with the immersion of the ARs. The Vice-President of the Government of Cantabria, Pablo Zuloaga, was invited to the event as a guest speaker. He stressed the importance of the scientists who deal with the environmental challenges that society faces, like the marine ecosystem impoverishment.
Two artificial reefs have been immersed in MMC (Santander, Spain). The aim is to capitalize the 3DPare project in Santander and Cantabria. The big tank held the large AR with a total weigh of 180kg with the aim of hosting moray-eels. The small AR was used to shelter smaller fish, like coris julis.
To celebrate 3-years since the UK’s 3D-printed artificial reefs were deployed, BU researchers have created a new video highlighting the fantastic community of marine life they support. It tells the story of the artificial reef units in Poole Bay since their initial manufacture and explores the range of species that have made them their home.
VideoSix artificial reefs have been immersed in Aquarium Donosti (San Sebastian, Spain). The aim is to capitalize the 3DPare project through diffusion in society, and in particular, to young generations who carry out frequent visits with their education centers. Aquarium Donosti is the oldest aquarium in Spain which receives around 300,000 visitors per year.
VideoUP organised a promotional event of the 3DPare project consisting on a course of underwater photography, with Nuno Vasco Rodrigues as a guest lecturer, one of Portugal's leading underwater conservation photographers with several winning awards. The workshop revised the basics and helped to improve knowledge of underwater photography.
Around 200 juvenile lobsters have been released onto 3D-printed artificial reefs by BU researchers, to discover whether this type of conservation tool will support them and can be used to improve underwater ecosystems in the future. The 1 month old lobsters (Homarus gammarus) were reared in a hatchery on the Yorkshire coast.
VideoThe 4th Promotional Event of the 3DPare project included a presentation with the main results of the AR bioreactivity campaigns. Also, two institutions were invited as guest speakers: Marefondum (Spanish recreational diving association) and Arquimea Research Center (located in Tenerife, with experience in ARs using biogenic materials).
VideoPartners of the 3DPare project made a presentation showing the main results of the AR bioreactivity campaigns to date. Also, two institutions with large experience in monitoring artificial reefs were invited as guest speakers: National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (Portugal) and University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain).
VideoAlice Hall (BU) is interviewed in The One Show to explain the 3DPare Project and also to dive together with the TV presenter, Bill Balley, around the artificial reef units immersed in Poole Bay.
VideoResearchers from the 3DPare project made a presentation showing the fabrication process and main results of the bioreactivity of the artificial reef units. Also, two companies with experience in developing artificial reefs were invited as guest speakers: ARCMarine and ExoEnvironmental.
VideoBianca Reis (PU) and Pieter Van Der Linden (PU) are interviewed in the Portuguese television channel, SIC, to explain the 3DPare Project and also to show the immersion process of the artificial reef units in Leixões harbour at Matosinhos.
