SIMA+

The SIMA+ project is financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Regional Development Fund

Presentation

The GENERAL AIM of SIMA+ project is the improvement of the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of the induction healing technology. On the one hand, the research will focus on the optimum design and evaluation of the durability of asphalt mixes with alternative materiales and induction healing capacity. On the other hand, the application of this induction heating technology to asphalt mixes produced with asphalt emulsions will be evaluated.

The main SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES of the project are:

  • Define the best alternative materials (industrial wastes or byproducts) for the substitution of the natural aggregates and the costly ferromagnetic materials.
  • Optimize the design of the asphalt mixes with alternative materials according to their induction healing capacity.
  • Evaluate the durability of the new asphalt mixes and define a methodology to delimit the optimum moment of healing.
  • Basically apply the induction healing technology to the emulsion asphalt mixtures.
  • Validate the resulting asphalt mixtures considering the economic and environmental point of views.
  • Internationalization and dissemination of the project results and knowledege transfer.

The OPORTUNITY of this project is clearly framed within the CHALLENGE “Sustainable, Intelligent and Integrated Transport” included in the “Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica, Técnica y de Innovación”. In this project a healing technique for more sustainable pavements with alternative materials will be developed that results in economic saving and resources reduction. This is in line with the main objective of the CHALLENGE of developing infrastructures that efficiently make use of the resources while they are competitive, safe and affordable.
